‘Job outlook bright in ITeS, telecom sectors’

Bangalore, Jan 14 Employment outlook in the ITeS and the telecom sectors looks up for the coming quarter. According to findings of the Employment Outlook Index for the quarter (January to March 2008), released by staffing solutions company TeamLease Services, there is a gradual increase in Employment Outlook Index points of the ITeS sector and a gradual decrease in index points of retail, media and the FMCG sector.
The Employment Outlook Index is computed as the difference in the proportion of respondents who report an increase in hiring needs and those who report a decline in hiring needs over the next three months.
The report also says that there is an increase in Employment Outlook index points of Bangalore, Chennai, Ahmedabad and Hyderabad cities and a decline in index points of Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata and Pune.
Though the hiring trend in Tier-I & II cities are increasing; and in metro cities decreasing, there is still no preference for hiring from rural areas, says the report. Interestingly, companies also said that the intention to hire across all managerial levels is gradually decreasing.
Mr Sampath Shetty, Vice President, TeamLease Services Pvt Ltd, said, “With the Indian government opening up for new telecom players and the sector entering its second phase of growth, there could be an upsurge in demand for manpower in the coming quarters.”
He also said that with greenfield and brownfield projects sprouting across Pune, Hyderabad and Chennai in sectors such as manufacturing, automobiles, chemicals and energy and infrastructure, there will be a polarisation of sectors like automobiles and infrastructure in locations such as Pune and Hyderabad respectively.
