US telecoms giant AT&T is reported to be preparing a takeover offer for UK-based pan-European telecommunications operator, COLT Telecom. According to the Guardian newspaper, COLT's main shareholder, Fidelity Investments, is trying to persuade AT&T to pay as much as UK£3 per share for the company, although AT&T has so far offered only UK£2.50 per share.
